How do I care for my crackpacs?

Do crackpacs come with a guarantee?
As part of our zero-waste ambition if your crackpacs break, or start falling apart, we want you to send it back so that we can repair it. For 12 months, we will repair anything considered a maker’s fault for free. If it has been damaged by misuse (or after the 12 month guarantee) then we will still fix it, and really want to, we will just charge you a small fee.
We really do want to fix your bag, it pains me to think that one of these bags could end up in land fill after it has been saved once already. We are the judge of whether the damage has been caused by misuse. We have tested these bags in every way possible and know their strengths. Please get in touch at contact@crackpacs.com and we can discuss a fix.
Can crackpacs be washed?
Please do not wash your crackpacs. The protective treatment on the canvas that keeps most dirt off can be damaged if washed. We advise using a brush when dry and, if necessary, a damp cloth to clean the dirt spots. For more info see our campsite rules here >
I have an old canvas tent, can you make crackpacs from it?
Before we can use any tent it has to be assessed for age related damage. Canvas does deteriorate over time so can become useless for making bags. The best thing to do is get in touch with us at contact@crackpacs.com giving as much detail as possible (photos are helpful) and we can work something out.
Are crackpacs waterproofed?
Yes we treat every bag with a water repellent coating. As with canvas tents, this does wear off over time and will need retreating with a tent protector. For more info see our campsite rules here >
Can you make a bag I have designed?
As we only have one designer and maker at crackpacs, it is often difficult to find the time to work on a completely new design. But if you require something special please get in touch at contact@crackpacs.com and we will see if we can accommodate.
I broke my crackpac, can you fix it?

How much of the tent do you reuse?
We don’t believe in waste, a key foundation which the business was built on. We try to reuse as much of the tent as possible. The canvas, PVC windows, mesh from the kitchen areas, tabs for pegging out. We even reuse the poles for other things. In fact, the chairs in the workshop are all made from the poles of tents used to make crackpacs.
Why don’t you reuse the zips?
The most common thing to break on a tent, and a backpack, is the zip. Some of our tents are tens of years old and although they do have quality zips, we feel they are not reliable enough to live a new life as part of crackpacs, so we use brand new YKK zips in all our crackpacs.
Can I return my crackpacs if I don’t like it in person?
